Tasting Note

A refined and expressive Chardonnay from the Mâconnais, showing bright citrus, green apple and ripe pear alongside subtle white blossom, chalky mineral notes and a gentle touch of almond.

The palate is fresh, precise and elegantly textured, with lively acidity balancing the ripeness of the 2022 vintage. Clean, focused and quietly sophisticated, it finishes with lingering notes of lemon zest, stone fruit and a fine mineral edge.

This wine would pair beautifully with grilled or roasted white fish, scallops or prawns, lemon and herb roast chicken, goats cheese, creamy pasta with mushrooms or seafood as well as fresh salads with a citrus dressing.

Overview

Domaine Leflaive’s Mâcon-Solutré-Pouilly 2022 is a refined white Burgundy made from Chardonnay in the southern Mâconnais, close to the famous limestone escarpment of Roche de Solutré. It offers a more accessible expression of the Leflaive style than the domaine’s Puligny-Montrachet wines, while still showing precision, freshness and mineral definition.

The 2022 vintage was ultimately an excellent surprise for all winegrowers in Burgundy, in quantity and especially in quality.

“The very hot summer we experienced made us wonder how our vines would react. It is clear that they have adapted very well and allowed us to be optimistic about this 2022 vintage.”

History

Domaine Leflaive is the most famous estate in Puligny-Montrachet. The Leflaive family has been rooted in Puligny since 1717, but the true founder of the domaine was Joseph Leflaive (1870-1953). He was succeeded by his sons, Vincent and Jo.

However, it was under Anne-Claude’s leadership from 1990 to 2015 that Domaine Leflaive became a pioneer in Burgundy’s biodynamic movement, fully converting the estate by 1997. The wines age for 12 months in 25% new oak before transferring to steel tanks, where they naturally clarify over the second winter. Afterward, they are fined and bottled. Leflaive’s wines showcase a superb balance of richness, depth, elegance, and refinement.

An exceptional rosé, Château La Mascaronne Rosé 2024 reveals the essence of the terroir from which it is produced. The estate’s grapes and soils create this rosé’s outstanding quality. The Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah and Vermentino grapes, typical Provence varieties, are harvested at the height of ripeness.

When enjoyed young, Château La Mascaronne Rosé 2024 is delightful before or with a meal. But it is also marvellous after several years of aging, a more unusual feat for a rosé wine. Its brilliant pink colour instantly telegraphs its Provence origin, offering a visual preview of the wine’s rich, complex aromas of fresh, ripe fruit.

Dom Bella Cabernet Franc 2015

At our 50 hectares estate (23ha planted), high density plantings combined with traditional sustainable viticulture in a completely dry farmed philosophy, yields powerful, concentrated grapes, with plenty of flavour and minerality, that embodies wines of tantalizing aromatic layers and immense texture. The Bella Elegance range comprises single-varietal wines focused on the fruit, while the Dom Bella range represents more structured wines and matured in oak, with incredible ageing potential (if you have the patience to wait).

Machine harvested and then placed onto a selection tray where only the best bunches will enter the winery. Destemming and crushing follow. Grapes are then transferred to temperature-controlled stainless steel vats for alcoholic and malolactic fermentation. Maceration lasts for approximately 20 days, using the delestage technique. The wine is then aged for up to 24 months in 225-liter French oak barrels (used) and then for another 4 years in the bottle before being released to the market.

Principal Grande Reserva Red 2012

The property’s 61 hectares are spread over the rich clay-limestone soils that dominate the gentle hills of this property. The entire vineyard is dry farmed. It is here that 4 of the world’s most reputed red grape varietals (Touriga Nacional, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot) are planted. These wines are vinified using gravity flow winemaking to produce our most emblamatic red wine, which will stand shoulder to shoulder with all of the fine red wines in the world. Atlantic-influenced climate, protected by the Caramulo and Bussaco Hills. Vineyards planted at high density (5555 plants per hectare) on gentle hills of clay-limestone soils. Completely dry farmed.

All grapes are harvested manually and then placed onto a selection tray where only the best bunches will enter the winery. Destemming and crushing follow, where the grapes are then transferred to temperature-controlled stainless steel vats and alcoholic and malolactic fermentation takes place. Royal Palmeira Loureiro 2020

Located in the middle of two important rivers, near Braga, PAÇO DE PALMEIRA is one of the most magnificent estates in the Minho region. Built as a residence intended for the leisure of princes, archbishops, and the most illustrious aristocracy of the region. Currently with 24 hectares, these vineyards benefit from the unique conditions of the site and rigorous viticulture, giving the best grapes of the native variety Loureiro and creating wines that are immensely expressive and destinated for long ageing. Atlantic-influenced climate. Vineyards planted on depressive soils of granite. High density plantation for better root penetration.

Lightly chilled pre-fermentation maceration. Gentle pressing. Fermentation in stainless steel with controlled temperature. Final stage of fermentation finishes in very old used french oak barrels (+10year old). Bâtonnage is carried out for the first 6 months. Malolactic fermentation may occur in some barrels. After 12 months in the barrels, the wine is transferred to stainless steel tanks, finned and filtered and then bottled. It is released to the market with at least 1 year of ageing in the bottle.

Bairrada: A Heritage of Sparkling and Still Wines

Bairrada has long been known for its outstanding sparkling wines. In recent decades, it has gained acclaim for still reds and whites. Today, winemakers blend native Portuguese grapes with classic French varieties to create elegant, distinctive wines.

The region sits on Portugal’s Atlantic coast and enjoys a temperate maritime climate. Limestone and clay soils dominate the gently rolling landscape. Notably, Bairrada shares climate and soil features with Bordeaux, including 800mm to 1,200mm of annual rainfall. Some eastern areas receive up to 1,600mm annually. Winters remain mild and wet, while summers are warm and sunny. As a result, grapes ripen slowly and evenly, preserving acidity and balance.

The terroir:

The estate lies along Bairrada’s limestone fault line, known for its exceptional viticultural potential. It includes 61 hectares of dry-farmed, high-density vineyards. Grape varieties include Touriga Nacional, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Pinot Noir. Additionally, Chardonnay, Arinto, and Sauvignon Blanc thrive here.

Viticulture follows a precision approach. Winemaking uses gravity-flow techniques to protect grape integrity.

Bruno Giacosa Barbera d’Alba 2020

Piemonte’s Langhe region is famed for the great winemakers it has produced over the past century. Yet, few can rival Bruno Giacosa, not only for the stature of his work, but for the dizzying number of famous wines he made in a career that began in 1961 and ended with his death on January 21, 2018.

And while other men have made great wines in either Barolo or Barbaresco, only Giacosa, for more than a half century, produced a steady stream of heroic wines from both zones. In fact, so remarkable were his accomplishments that his legend transcends not only Piemonte, but Italy. He was, in short, one of the profoundly great winemakers of our time.

Tasting Notes

Bruno Giacosa’s Dolcetto d’Alba 2020 is an immediately appealing wine produced from grapes grown on exceptional hillside vineyards. The bouquet is full of vibrant red cherry and cassis notes and there is lovely depth of pure, ripe fruit on the palate. Dark strawberry and red cherry fruit flavours mingle with wild herbs and juicy, ripe tannins.

Run by Domaine Belleville since 2017, this is a micro negociant business which has access to a whole range of vineyards across the Cote de Bourgogne from village wines to 1er Cru to Grand Cru. All vineyards are in Organic & or Biodynamic conversion. Often the lots are very limited to 600 – 900 bottles only.

LPdS is a commonly used abbreviation of Les Parcellaires de Saulx. Saulx is pronounced ‘so’.

Tasting Note

Appearance: Dark with sustained ruby tints Bouquet: Red fruit aromas, particularly raspberry, strawberry, cherry and black fruits such as blackcurrant and blackberry In the mouth: Firm and structured, chewy and rich in silky, well-integrated tannins.

Climat

This Climat gets its name from the word “boutes” which refers to a goatskin container used to transport wine and olive oil by mule. The “Les Boutières” Climat is close to a well-worn track which was used to transport wine.

Terrior

The Corton mountain forms an exemplary geological cross-section. Between 200 and 300 metres of altitude, the soil is reddish brown with many flint nodules, calcareous flint waste or loose soil which is rich in potassium and phosphoric acid.

Les Parcellaires de Saulx Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru 2019

LPdS is a commonly used abbreviation of Les Parcellaires de Saulx. Saulx is pronounced ‘so’.

Gevrey-Chambertin is a commune rich in Grand Crus. These can be roughly divided into two categories, the lower ones, which include the Chapelle-Chambertin, are considered to be the more tender and red-berry, while the upper ones are stronger and darker in fruit.

The Name

The name comes from a chapel built here in 1165 by monks from the Abbey of Bèze. In 1830, however, this had to give way to the vines.

The Terroir

Located mid-slope facing east, south of Gevrey-Chambertin, this terroir consists of limestone scree soil covered with a thin layer of clay on the surface.

From Les Parcellaires de Saulx there was a small amount of Chapelle-Chambertin in 2019, which combines the fullness and concentration of the vintage with the enchanting elegance of this Grand Cru location. This treasure was aged in barriques for fifteen months.

Aging

The wines spends 12 to 15 months in French oak giving elegance and refinement, charm and a perfect balance.

Background

Les Parcellaires de Saulx is a micro-negociant founded in 2017. At the helm is cellar master Isabelle Laurend who sources grapes strictly from farmers who work organically or biodynamically. Every single wine is made from a single parcel, the 2020 vintage spent 12 – 15 months in old French oak (in this cellar, no new oak used). Most cuvees only produce a single barrel of wine.

Terroir

This climat is located in the extreme north of the appellation, right on the top of the hillside with a calcareous soil formed of pure alluvium. Its altitude, east-facing exposure and location on the terraces imparts great tension which enhances the sensation of complexity and spicy aromas.
