The Dream

Dominio de Calogía is a dream come true, a personal project of José Manuel Pérez Ovejas and his wife, Silvia Ortega. Birthed in the spring of 2020, it looks to the future in search of excellence. Conceived in the style of a French domaine, the concept of a boutique winery with an avant-garde design is striking. It is surrounded by spectacular vineyards in a unique setting between the municipalities of Roa and Pedrosa de Duero, at the foot of the majestic Cuesta Manvirgo.

All the vines are their own and spread over a special terroir, Dominio de Calogía. The plot that gives its name to the winery and defines the style of the wine from the very beginning.

José Manuel Perez Ovejas

José Manuel Pérez Ovejas belongs to a saga of winemakers and wine is in his veins. His destiny was clear to him from a very early age. It is why he has focused his efforts on acquiring knowledge to develop his work as an oenologist with solvency and brilliance.

His training has not only been academic but also gained from the experience of sharing day-to-day life with a master: his father, Benjamín Pérez, a well-known winegrower in the sector who actively participated in the creation of the Ribera del Duero Designation of Origin.

With 30 vintages of experience, José Manuel has honed his skills year after year with dedication and intuition. His solid training and intuition have been vital in perfecting his craft. José Manuel’s high standards and self-discipline have driven him to achieve excellence in winemaking. These qualities have helped him reach the pinnacle of his profession.

This spirit of self-improvement is always present in his work as an oenologist and in the wines he makes. Recognition from the sector came in the form of awards: Winemaker of the Year in 2017 and Best Winemaker in Spain in 2018.

Now he is working alone, with great enthusiasm and passion, on his new project.
