Memento Mori Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

99 points | Jeb Dunnuck

Just about pure perfection in a glass, the Memento Mori Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 checks in as 100% varietal sourced from top sites including Dr Crane, Las Piedras, Weitz, Oakville Ranch and Vine Hill. Deep purple/blue-hued beauty boasts a stunning bouquet of pure crème de cassis and blackberry fruits as well as complex forest floor, graphite, chocolate, and spicy oak. Full-bodied, rich, sexy, yet incredibly elegant and seamless on the palate, this is pure Napa Valley magic that has appeal even today yet the class to evolve for 30 years in cold cellars. 98 points | Wine Advocate

It charges out of the gate with energetic scents of warm cassis, blackberry pie, boysenberries and wild blueberries plus hints of mocha, black truffles, fertile loam and lavender, with a waft of Chinese five spice. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated and decadent with a velvety texture and fantastic freshness, it finishes long and layered.

94 points | Wine Spectator

A really lovely array of cassis, plum preserves and violet that streams through, carried by a perfectly embedded graphite spine and backed by a long finish that glistens with anise and sweet bay leaf notes.

Our goal is to combine elegance, power, aromatics, texture, finish, and longevity to create beautifully balanced wines that are approachable in their youth, but have enough structure to cellar for long term aging. | Sam Kaplan, Memento Mori Winemaker

The Memento Mori Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 draws its dense purple core from the Beckstoffer Dr. Crane, Beckstoffer Las Piedras, Vine Hill Ranch, Weitz Vineyard, and Oakville Ranch vineyards. It offers layers of ripe blackberries, crushed boysenberries, black plums, spiced mocha, and hints of cassis. Notes of black tea, wet stone, cigar box, and Indian spices evolve in the glass. Wild blackberries, blueberries, and black raspberries create a nuanced mid-palate. Plush, fine-grained tannins glide smoothly on the palate. Aged for 22 months in 100% new French oak, this wine showcases the grace and beauty of the 2018 vintage. It offers immediate enjoyment and long-term aging potential.
