Piemonte’s Langhe region is famed for the great winemakers it has produced over the past century. Yet, few can rival Bruno Giacosa, not only for the stature of his work, but for the dizzying number of famous wines he made in a career that began in 1961 and ended with his death on January 21, 2018.
And while other men have made great wines in either Barolo or Barbaresco, only Giacosa, for more than a half century, produced a steady stream of heroic wines from both zones. In fact, so remarkable were his accomplishments that his legend transcends not only Piemonte, but Italy. He was, in short, one of the profoundly great winemakers of our time.
About the 2022: Yields are down by between 15% and 30%, depending on the grape variety and exposure. Despite the maturation levels of the grapes, the results were exceptional, and the wines offer great structure and excellent aromatics. When asked about the 2022 vintage, Bruna Giacosa modestly told us: “we’re very happy with the results so far”.
Coming exclusively from the Roero region, the Arneis shows a ripe and profound character of aromas, expected for a warm and dry vintage. Nonetheless, the freshness of the fruit sustains the structure of a solar vintage, with notes of ripe orchard fruit and confit citrus. Drink from 2024 to 2028.
Intense straw colored with greenish glints. The nose presents lemon, pineapple, peach and apricot notes with floral hints. On the palate, it is fresh, full-bodied, with mineral notes and a persistent finish.
