Tasting Note
Craggy Range Te Muna Sauvignon Blanc 2022 is a Sauvignon Blanc of precision and purity, with aromas of fresh kaffir lime leaf and white floral notes. Sophisticated and moreish, it delivers abundant fruit flavours, a balanced texture and a crystalline finish.
Vineyards
The Te Muna Road vineyard in Martinborough’s Wairarapa subregion produces these grapes in New Zealand’s southeastern North Island. This vineyard has two distinct terraces: the lower terrace features young, stony soils with limestone, creating an ideal environment for Sauvignon Blanc. Martinborough’s cooler climate enhances aromatic qualities and adds steely minerality, while the rocky soils bring intensity to the fruit. Warm, dry summers and mild winters in the region foster complex, structured wines with subtle aromas and an elegant finish. VSP-trained vines allow airflow and maximize sunlight. Pruning techniques are advancing to improve sap flow and reduce trunk disease. The vineyard team is minimizing herbicides, introducing cover crops, and shifting toward an organic-based spray program. All grapes are hand-harvested.
Winery
Craggy Range Te Muna Sauvignon Blanc 2022 was made from 92% destemmed and 8% whole-bunch fruit for added complexity. Fermentation occurred with inoculated yeasts in stainless steel tanks and French oak barriques, with 10% new oak. The wine then aged for three months in French oak barriques, 3% of which were new, enhancing its texture.
