Hundred Acre ‘Fortunate Son The Dreamer’ 2019

96 points Jeb Dunnuck

Coming from two vineyards, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon The Dreamer sports a vivid purple hue to go with beautiful aromatics of darker currants, ripe cranberries, leafy tobacco, and spring flowers. I love its balance, it’s medium to full-bodied, has gorgeous tannins, and a great finish. (November 2022)

A blend of two undisclosed vineyards, Fortunate Son’s 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon The Dreamer is darker, richer and warmer than the 2018 version, yet still balanced, delivering ripe black cherries, loamy earth and dried spices. It’s medium to full-bodied, softly dusty and long on the finish. (May 2023)

For those familiar with Jayson’s winemaking ventures, the name Fortunate Son likely stands out. Between 2006 and 2012, Jayson collaborated with William Kimble and Chris Radomski under this label. The 2018 revival of Fortunate Sons, however, marks Jayson’s solo effort.

This new approach focuses on Napa’s finest small, family-owned vineyards. The renaissance introduces three wines: The Dreamer, The Warrior, and The Diplomat, each with its own allure. The collection will expand to seven wines in future vintages. Jayson adds a personal touch by scribing each bottle with a quote that reflects the essence of the wine, evolving with each vintage.
