Les Parcellaires de Saulx Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2019

95 points | Jasper Morris

“Fine purple, not too deep. The nose also shows a better balance than the Côte de Beaune wines. A little touch of whole bunch. In fact plenty and it is a good thing as it tones down the ripeness. This is really very good, not the most structured or concentrated Clos Vougeot 2020, but nicely made and will give pleasure a little earlier than some.”

Run by Domaine Belleville since 2017, this is a micro negociant business which has access to a whole range of vineyards across the Cote de Bourgogne from village wines to 1er Cru to Grand Cru. All vineyards are in Organic & or Biodynamic conversion. Often the lots are very limited to 600 – 900 bottles only.

LPdS is a commonly used abbreviation of Les Parcellaires de Saulx. Saulx is pronounced ‘so’.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Intense red with garnet tints Bouquet: Rich, elegant and distinguished aroma with notes of black cherry, blackberry and musk supplemented with a hint of smoke. In the mouth: pronounced minerality, in a powerful register, dense, but not excessively so.

Terroir

In the upper section which is on a gentle slope, the soil is fairly shallow and has a seedy structure with a lot of gravel on the Bajocian limestone. In the middle, the soil is brown and shallow, gravelly, calcareous and more clay-rich.
