Maison Roche de Bellene Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru 2019

18.5 points | Jancis Robinson

Maison Roche de Bellene Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru 2019 “Barrel sample. Deep crimson. Intense, dark fruit that puts the oak into the background. Terrific intensity on the palate, dark, savoury, charry but not at all over-oaked. Elegant tannins, extremely fine and deliciously dry. Immense length and refinement. Drinking Window:  2030 – 2045” (Julia Harding MW 4th Dec 2020)

“The Maison Roche de Bellene Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru 2019 was showing a bit of reduction on the nose compared to the other Grand Crus, which offers mainly black fruit with brown spices; the oak needs a few more weeks to fully assimilate. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, harmonious and silky in texture. It does not quite fan out as much as the Grands-Echézeaux by direct comparison, although it does feel very persistent. Give it 4–5 years in bottle. Drinking Window:  2025 – 2045” (Neal Martin tasted 2 Dec 2020)
