Tasting Notes
Marchesi Antinori Tignanello Toscana IGT 2019 displays a deep ruby red color. The nose reveals complex notes of red fruits, strawberries, and pomegranate, which blend with delicate aromas of apricot, peach syrup, and vanilla. Dried flowers, chocolate, and hints of nutmeg add elegance, while coffee, caramel, and Mediterranean herbs complete the bouquet. The palate is graceful and full, with vibrant, silky tannins adding liveliness and length. The aftertaste highlights roasted coffee and bitter chocolate.
Vintage
The 2019 growing season in Chianti Classico was marked by normal weather conditions. A cold, dry winter led to a cool, rainy spring, especially in April and May. The summer was warm but free of intense heat, with rain that supported steady vine and grape growth. By late August, ideal weather set in and continued through October, ensuring all grape varieties reached peak ripeness. Harvest began in mid-September with Sangiovese and concluded on October 16 with Cabernet.
Vinification
The 2019 climate required focused work in both the vineyards and cellar. During fermentation in truncated conical tanks, careful maceration on the skins preserved aromas, color, and refined tannins. Daily tastings guided racking before transferring the wine into small oak barrels for malolactic fermentation to enhance aromatic complexity. Aging continued for 14–16 months in French and Hungarian oak barrels, both new and second-use, with lots aged separately before final blending. After blending, the wine completed barrel aging and was then bottle-aged for an additional 12 months before release. Tignanello 2019 is primarily Sangiovese with small portions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
