Winemaker Notes
The 2021 Tenuta Tignanello Chianti Classico Riserva (Marchese Antinori) unveils an intense ruby red color. First, the nose reveals rich notes of black cherry, followed by delicate floral hints and a subtle touch of powdered sugar. Further enhancing the bouquet, accents of cinnamon and dill add an enticing, spicy complexity. On the palate, the wine is both vibrant and structured, offering smooth tannins that lead to a savoury, lingering finish.
Background
Located in the heart of Chianti Classico, Tenuta Tignanello spans 319 hectares (788 acres), with 130 (321 acres) dedicated to vines. Importantly, the estate’s celebrated Tignanello and Solaia vineyards, rooted in ancient marine marlstone rich in limestone and schist, give the wine its signature depth and character.
Vintage
The 2021 growing season in Chianti Classico was notable for its patience and balance, ultimately producing wines of power and elegance. Initially, a mild winter and moderate summer set the stage for gradual ripening, punctuated by occasional rain showers. Finally, the harvest kicked off in mid-September and wrapped up in mid-October, with Sangiovese and Cabernet both achieving optimal maturity in this exceptional vintage.
Vinification
Upon arrival at the cellar, the grapes were first destemmed and gently crushed. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, with gentle pump-overs and délestage enhancing extraction while maintaining a refined tannic profile. Once malolactic fermentation completed naturally, the wine aged for a year in French and Hungarian oak barrels, followed by twelve months of bottle aging, ensuring it was perfectly balanced and ready for release.
