Tua Rita Giusto di Notri 2020

Supertuscan producer Tua Rita is based in the coastal Maremma district of Tuscany. Their Giusto di Notri is a word-class Cabernet-Merlot blend. A full bodied yet elegant Italian red with rich dark fruits, hints of herbs and fine structure.

97 points | James Suckling

Tua Rita Giusto di Notri 2020 has “lots of incense to the aromas with sandalwood and lavender. Currants, blackberries. and fresh herbs, too. Full-bodied and very rich, with a powerful, structured mid-palate and a long, long finish. A wine for the future.”

96 points | Robert Parker

“A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc and 8% Merlot, the Tua Rita Giusto di Notri 2020 is a ripe, bold and generous wine. The DNA of the wine has changed slightly over the years to favor the Cabernet Franc (with an increased percentage) over the Merlot, which has fallen from a previous high of about 35% to 40% of the blend a decade ago. What I like about this wine is that it manages an elegant, almost understated interpretation of a hot and dry vintage. The tannins are especially well managed in this situation.

Azienda Agricola Tua Rita was founded in 1984 by Rita Tua and her husband Virgilio Bisti, and is located just outside the small town Suvereto in the Tuscan province of Livorno. It all began with a two-hectare plot and has grown to cover 30 hectares of vineyards, which are farmed organically.

Wine

Giusto di Notri is a Bordeaux-inspired blend selectively harvested in September. After a gentle pressing, the juice and skins macerate for a lengthy period of 25-30 days to add concentration and depth to the final wine. The wine is then aged for 18-20 months in French oak barrels and refined six months in bottle before release.

Location of Vineyard

Tua Rita is located in Suvereto, a small medieval town in the Tuscan province of Livorno, on the coast south of Bolgheri. The winery lies at just 300 feet above sea level, on clay, silty soil.

Winemaking and Viticulture Philosophy

Luca D’Attoma, the estate’s winemaker, keeps yields to a minimum to ensure concentration of flavours. The estate’s total annual production is currently just 3400 cases.

Food Pairing: Perfect with beef and venison dishes.
