Quinta Colinas de São Lourenço
Introducing the Bairrada Region
For over a century, Bairrada in Portugal has been celebrated for its sparkling wines. But more recently, it has also gained recognition for its high-quality still red and white wines too. Winemakers in Bairrada craft both traditional styles using native Portuguese grape varieties and international styles that incorporate French varietals, sometimes blended with local grapes.
This coastal region enjoys a moderate Atlantic climate and features gently rolling hills with limestone and clay soils.
Its climate and soil are often similar to those of Bordeaux.
Bairrada receives an average of 31 to 47 inches of rainfall annually, with some eastern areas experiencing up to 62 inches. Ocean breezes keep temperatures moderate, resulting in warm, sunny summers and mild winters, with most rain falling during the cooler months.
